Cray Valley have eyes on unique quadruple

CRAY VALLEY will be looking to win the London Intermediate Cup for a third consecutive season when they play South London Alliance League Premier Division champions elect, Metrogas at Bayliss Avenue in Thamesmead on Friday evening, writes Barry Feist.

Valley are still without suspended striker Dean Flood and it is expected that Derek Oldfield will keep his place for the final.

Oldfield has been in good form since being plucked out of the reserves to score a hat-trick on his first team debut against Bearsted a fortnight ago and a goal on Easter Monday against Stansfeld Oxford & Bermondsey Club takes his tally to four goals in three games.

Kent County League top scorer Matt Knuckney is expected to partner Oldfield up front.  Knuckney has now his 28 goals in 30 games this season and has taken over as leading scorer since Lee Sperring's move from Halls FC to Go Travel Kent League side Maidstone United.

Captain, Dean White, who scored the third goal from the penalty spot on Easter Monday against Stansfeld hopes to recover from a slight injury picked up in the same game.

Cray Valley chairman Dave Wilson is extremely pleased with the success of the team this year, which is on course to land a very unique QUADRUPLE.

"Over the past month the first team have reached the final of the London Intermediate Cup, which we've won for the last two years, the Kent Intermediate Challenge Shield, we've also reached the Inter-Regional Challenge Cup, which we hold after last year's victory over University of Kent."

He praised the club's togetherness for the team's success, adding: "Our continuing success is I feel, down to good organisation and training, a strong sense of "team togetherness", and of course a squad of quality players.

"Mark Edwards and his "team" work hard to ensure we maintain the standards we've set ourselves."

If successful at Bayliss Avenue on Friday, Cray Valley can add the Kent Intermediate Challenge Shield on Saturday 9th April when they take on Norton Sports at Chatham Town's Maidstone Road ground.

Then if they defeat Old Roan at Cray Valley's Badgers Sports Ground at Middle Park Avenue on Saturday 16th April, in the British Energy Kent County League Premier Division, they will only need two more points from their last four matches to secure the championship.

And they face Orpington in the Inter-Regional Challenge Cup Final at Welling United's Park View Road ground on Wednesday 27th April.
