Bears looking to maintain consistency

Darren Thorneycroft has made the leap from reserve team football to impress at the back for British Energy Kent County League outfit Bearsted, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Bears, who travel to Rusthall tomorrow, have struggled this season but over the last two weeks Murray Carcary's team have recaptured a little bit of consistency to provide some hope for the remainder of the season.

With Russell McLeish in good form scoring twice, the Bears ran out 4-1 winners at home to Snodland last weekend with Thorneycroft making an impressive debut.

Although languishing near the bottom of the premier division table, Bearsted need only a couple of wins to hoist them back into the middle of the pack and a more respectable league position.

Meanwhile, Steve Bailey's well organised reserve side have almost recaptured last season's consistent form that brought them the championship last term.

Visitors Larkfield provided a stern test before the Bears took the three points through debutant Ben Woodward.

With influential John Brook at the heart of defence, Bearsted will be difficult to break down but Chipstead found a way two weeks ago to inflict their first defeat of the season.

Saturday's timely win on home soil sent Bearted back to the top of the table.

They have also defeated Ramsgate's reserves in the Kent Intermediate Cup, winning 1-0 at Southwood Stadium last month.
