Cordice warns Faversham against complacency

Faversham Town manager Terry Cordice has warned his players: Calm down, you'll hurt yourselves!

The Lilywhites are really buzzing after securing their fifth successive win with a 3-1 result away to Rusthall on Saturday.

The boys are back in town this weekend for the visit of third-to-bottom Lydd Town and it is a game they should win.

But not if you listen to Cordice who is determined to keep his side free of complacency and fully focused on one game at a time.

Cordice and his assistant Peter Holder revealed that the players are all desperate to play against Norton Sports a week on Saturday - so much so that training has become a touch too competitive.

He said: "Five wins in a row is great but I'm very keen to make sure the lads do not become over-confident.

"They are all talking about Norton - it's a game they all want to play in and we've had to calm them down at times in training because the tackles have started to fly in.

"But my focus is on Saturday and Lydd Town - and you can be sure that the players will be exactly the same after we've finished with them in training this week.

"The one result that really sticks in my mind this season is Bromley Green's win away to Stansfeld a couple of weeks ago.

"Stansfeld look to be one of the teams to beat this year and are going well but Bromley Green went there and won 3-1. It just shows you that you have to be on your game at all times.

"So let's try our best to get a result against Lydd Town and then we'll think about the local derby against Norton."

Cordice is looking forward to returning home and putting on a good performance for the club's growing band of supporters.

He said: "The lads love it at Salters Lane because the crowds have been so good this season.

"They're excited about the next two games. It'd be great to show the supporters just how much we've progressed as a team bearing in mind we did not have the best of starts.

"The gates seem to be averaging out at around the 200 mark which is incredible for the County League and the lads are keen to put on a decent show."

Midfielder Stuart Smith is back for Saturday's game against Lydd Town after serving a suspension he picked up last season. His namesake Mark Smith is unavailable because of a wedding.

Meanwhile, a second mystery benefactor has put up £100 if Town can make it six out of six against Lydd Town on Saturday (kick-off 2.45pm).

If the Lilywhites do win, the money will go straight into the players pool which has been set up to fund an end-of-season trip for the squad who are not being paid this season.

The supporter, who does not wished to be named, has been a Town fan for more than 20 years and is thrilled to see his team doing so well.

Press officer James Brown said: "This is the second time someone has put up some money for a win.

"The lads are on a roll at the moment and every little motivation helps."

Ricky Cable is the latest player to benefit from kit sponsorship with supporter Paul Friend paying £50 to back the striker.

If you would like to sponsor a player call James on 078111 82652. All money raised goes into the players pool.
