I've made the right decision to stay
EXCLUSIVE

Chris Tucker admits he has made the right decision staying with Combined Counties League division one champions, Coney Hall, writes Stephen McCartney.

In an EXCLUSIVE interview with www.kentishfootball.co.uk, the 28-year-old is reaping the benefits of staying loyal to the Tiepigs Lane club.

And with ground improvements currently getting underway - and more in the pipeline - Tucker is plotting another successful campaign.

"There will be things in place for our promotion next year," he insisted.

"We are going for promotion - there is major working being done on the clubhouse and the planning permission going through, we are looking to start the season at Coney Hall and get promoted at Coney Hall."

The club have filed an application for floodlights and have had a good response from the council to erect a six meter fence to enclose the ground.

And by the start of the 2006-07 campaign, the club will boast a new car park, turnstiles, changing rooms for men, women and the disabled, outside toilets for spectators, portable dugouts and a 250 seater stand.

These improvements will enable the club to compete in the premier division of the Combined Counties League and a step nearer of fulfilling their Ryman League goal.

Tucker is relishing the new season, and added: "Our reserves are looking to be a totally under 21 side this year.

"And we're looking to keep the majority of the first team players that won the league last year."

Tucker has signed a 19-year-old centre half from one of his league rivals.

But Tucker is expecting a tough campaign as they bid to mirror last season's success.

"We won the league last year but we have to improve on what we did last year," he said.

"We didn't start off well, we need to this season but we've got a few suspensions in September.

"The league also starts a week earlier (13th August) and we've got a few people away.

"We normally have a tough start - teams will be looking to knock us off the pedestal.

"It's going to be tough, we play four more league games this season.

"If we finish in a promotion position we should be able to go up - but we must finish in the top three."

And Tucker praised the hard work of his chairman, Joe Farrugia, and the club's committee for their hard work and committment.

"With the way the club's developed, it's changed a lot in the last year since Joe, the new chairman has come in," praised Tucker.

"He has given us a vision on where he wants the club to go but when you get a determined chairman and a solid committee that backs him up - don't forget the club was in a terrible financial situation when he took over - we are now financially stable.

"We are not looking over our shoulder thinking where the next penny is coming from.

"I am glad I have stayed - I firmly believe I have made the right decision - only time will tell."
