WHITSTABLE TOWN manager Justin Luchford has issued an apology to supporters after his side were thrashed 5-0 at home by promotion chasing Whitehawk on Saturday.

The Oystermen are presently sitting second-from-bottom in the revised Ryman League Division One South table with 21 points from 28 games, thanks to Croydon Athletic’s demise and a miserable run of just one win in their last seven league outings.

However, they are nine points clear of basement side Whyteleafe and have lost their last two league games and have now gone 228 minutes since scoring their last goal.

Former Faversham Town and Horsham boss Luchford, meanwhile, has issued the following statement to the club’s official website www.whitstabletownfc.co.uk to apologise to fed-up supporters’.

He said:  “I would just like to take this opportunity to apologise to the fans for Saturday’s performance.

“It wasn’t good enough and not what you deserve to be watching.

“The buck stops with me.  I’m the manager and I take full responsibility.

“We will work hard this week to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

“We have good players at this football club and I am convinced we will get this right.

“Once again I apologise and I hope you continue to support this club in the same way you have for many years.

“You deserve more and I will work around the clock to give you something to cheer about.”
