United manager Adrian Pennock cannot wait to be in the opposite dug-out to
the loyal Charlton Athletic management team of Alan Curbishley and Keith
Peacock, writes Stephen McCartney. The Premiership side bring their stars to Park View Road, which will generate much needed funds for the Nationwide Conference South club. Fans are expected to fill Park View Road to the brim, so Welling officials advise supporters to get to the ground as early as they can. In an EXCLUSIVE interview with www.kentishfootball.co.uk, Pennock, the former Gillingham player, has nothing but respect for the long serving manager at The Valley. "It will be good to meet Alan Curbishley and Keith Peacock," he said. "I think one day Alan will be England manager, he's done a fantastic job. "What he's done at that football club is unbelievable and I am really looking forward to meeting him." Pennock wants all Wings' fans to enjoy the occasion, but he is apprehensive that his side will suffer another drubbing as they did last summer. Charlton beat Paul Parker's side eight goals to nil, but the two clubs drew each other the year before. "It's a massive test for us, something we will be looking forward to," he admitted. "It's great that Charlton can come down every year. "It's a fantastic boost for the club - we've got a fantastic relationship with Charlton. "I'm not worried about the scoreline - but I want the boys to do things properly. "The boys are looking forward to it as they will be playing against top Premiership players." Pennock is likely to be without new signing, Lee Shearer, as International clearance for the former Dover Athletic player hasn't come through, yet. But Pennock looks set to hand debuts to seven other players, as he is likely to give all of his squad a run-out. "There's some new faces but I think the whole football club are looking forward to it," he said. "The players are coming against an excellent football club. "The standard is a massive gulf between the two clubs. Striker Danny Kedwell, one of eight summer signings made by Pennock, was a key man in the Herne Bay side that finished runners-up to Ramsgate in the Kent League last season, and he will get a glimpse of the action. "Danny had a slight knock so he might come on later on - everyone should have a run-out," revealed Pennock. It will be a very good work-out for his players. "There will be players coming tomorrow who I will be interested in looking at," he added. "For us it will be all about fitness. The game has come pretty early with four training sessions before the game, so we will be chasing shadows. "And Charlton have had some new signings so they will want to impress as well." |
