Moore signings for Wings

New manager Adrian Pennock has wasted no time in securing players to bolster the Welling United squad.

Following the signing of Matt Lovell, Pennock has returned to his previous Gravesend & Northfleet again to sign 32-year-old defender Chris Moore.

The tall Australian-born centre back was last season’s player of the year at Stonebridge Road where he has made fifty-seven appearances, scoring on ten occasions, over two league campaigns in the Conference National.

Young Gillingham goalkeeper Danny Knowles also joins on non-contract to replace the injured Charlie Mitten, despite having also signed Southern League forms recently with Division One East side Harlow Town.

The Sidcup-born 19-year-old has been a regular in the Gills reserves this season and is currently on a scholarship at the Priestfield Stadium.

With Jo Flack returning to Stevenage Borough, Pennock has brought in Nicky Harrhy, also from Gravesend.

The Welsh-born 22-year-old striker lives in Monmouthshire and was on standby behind Wings regular front men Tommy Tyne and Paul Booth for yesterday's trip to Weston-super-Mare, which was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Unfortunately, highly-rated defender James Smith has left the club following interest from two Conference National sides.

The talented 18-year-old is still a youth trainee at Cambridge United, but the club agreed not to hold him back in order that he can pursue his dream of playing at a higher level.
