Squad takes shape at Welling
Welling United manager Paul Parker is chasing Cambridge
United's contracted 22-year-old goalkeeper Martin Brennan as his number one
choice.
Brennan is believed to be less than happy at being down the pecking order at the
Abbey Stadium.
Brennan has been at Tottenham Hotspur and Charlton before joining Cambridge
United.
Parker has transformed his squad adding several quality signings. The ex-England
and Manchester United defender has swooped for the gifted Lee Spiller, Jamie
Day, Andy Arnott and is chasing cultured right back Tony Browne from Dover
Athletic.
He has raided Chelmsford City again for teenage winger George Lay and also
signed Gareth Street from the Essex outfit and ex-Sutton United utility defender
Matthew Lee in from Gravesend & Northfleet.
Strangely Anthony Riviere accepted a pay rise and less travelling when joining a
few of his closest pals at Fisher Athletic and Billy Burgess was surplus
to requirements after a poor season which may have gone downhill after a bad
injury at Cambridge City. Parker also said thanks but no thanks to Kenny Dyer,
Austin Berkley, Brian Statham and Ian Cousins, who were all shown the door at
Park View Road.
However, former Spurs defender Tim O'Shea, who was released last season, returns
to the Wings as coach and community officer.
