Pennock: Whatever eleven I put
out on Saturday I want to win |
| Adrian Pennock takes his side back to
Basingstoke Town on Saturday for a third qualifying round FA Trophy tie -
but at least they know how to get to The Camrose, writes Stephen
McCartney. The Wings missed the chance of going solely to the top of the Nationwide Conference South table on Tuesday night when they were held to a 2-2 draw in Hampshire. With poor visibility due to thick fog, Welling found themselves 2-0 down within ten minutes of the kick off, which disappointed Pennock. Defender Lee Shearer pulled one back in the 29th minute before former Margate striker Che Stadhart netted on the hour mark, heading home past Rob Bullivant. But Pennock hopes for a better display when they return to the ground with a place in the first round of the FA Trophy at stake. In an EXCLUSIVE interview with www.kentishfootball.co.uk, Pennock said: "After going 2-0 down in the first ten minutes I thought we showed a lot of character to get back into the game. "We possibly could have won with a stronger team later in the game. I was very disappointed with the goals we conceded and I thought the first half performance was the worst we've played for a long time." Reflecting on the second half, the former Gillingham star added: "There wasn't much atmosphere there, with the weather, to be honest, it could have been called off. "The fans paid good money, I spoke to some after the game and they couldn't see the other side of the pitch. That was the problem, but I didn't want the game called off to be honest." And Pennock is expecting another tough game in their next encounter. He said: "They are a good team. I respect Ernie Howe as a manager, he's got a lot of injuries and so have we, with suspensions as well. But it will be a tight game as well. "Like I've said before, they're no easy games in the league. At the bottom we've played Carshalton Athletic and Maidenhead United and they gave us a hard game." Pennock will be without the suspended Matt Lee and Matt Carruthers and has six players that are doubtful through injury. James Pinnock (ankle), Danny Kedwell (groin), Adrian Clarke (groin), Lee Gledhill (hamstring) and Che Stadhart (bruised foot) are all keeping their phyio busy. "I want to win every game," said Pennock. "Whatever eleven I put out on Saturday I want to win, that's the biggest thing for me."
