Wiles makes Swift return

RYMAN Premier League club Heybridge Swifts have announced the return of Ian Wiles.

A cultured and capable defender or full back, strong in the air and on the ground with good distribution, Wiles, having been released by Colchester United, was an integral part of the Swifts team built by Liam Cutbush and Robbie Nihill that won the Ryman League Cup in the 2000-01 campaign and finished seventh in the league.

Wiles then followed Cutbush to Chelmsford City where he spent two successful seasons before leaving for Nationwide South outfit Welling United, then managed by ex-Chelmsford City boss Paul Parker.

After two seasons at Park View Road, Wiles have elected to return to Swifts in the face of numerous offers from elsewhere, and the supporters who voted him player of the season in the cup winning campaign will be delighted to see this still youthful but now experienced campaigner return.

Swifts boss Brian Statham, however, continues his search to strengthen the squad in key positions to enable the side to challenge for a play-off spot, reports www.nonleaguedaily.com
