Dover Athletic hit by another tax bill |
|
Jim Parmenter is asking Dover Athletic fans and
local businesses to rally together this season and raise funds to help
the club overcome its latest financial setback, writes Justin Allen.
The Ryman League Division One club has been hit by a £9,000 tax bill by the Inland Revenue for unpaid PAYE by the previous regime. This is the latest of a number of skeletons that have fallen out of the closet since Mr Parmenter's consortium took over the Whites in January. It severely puts a dent in the club's plans to clear the CVA by the end of this coming season - and illustrates that an even strong fundraising effort is going to be needed to get the Whites motoring up the leagues again. Mr Parmenter said: "I'm bitterly disappointed that we've been hit by this bill. We're very unhappy about it. We just don't understand how the previous regime allowed this sort of thing to happen." Fans can be rest assured that the club is in safe hands now and Whites have a platform to build from, now that immediate and pressing debts have been cleared. The minimum target for this coming season remains promotion and to clear the CVA. But now an extra £9,000 needs to be found on top of everything else. The Whites chairman said: "We really hope that there are no more skeletons to fall out of the closet but, as a board, we're determined to meet everything head on and get this club back where it belongs - in the Conference." Mr Parmenter hopes that fans will do their very best to support fundraising activities, social events and to get up to Crabble in large numbers again this coming season. ![]()
